Cowboy Shootouts

August 26th, 2010 by cgerber

It’s the little things in life. I re-hooked up xbox live again and now can blow people’s brains out in Red Dead Redemption online! If you don’t know what game that is… there is no hope for you. I’m pretty excited about it. I haven’t had a whole lot of time to play games, but I’m hoping to squeeze some playing in this fall and all that.
I have to go to the DMV here in LA today. It’s probably a little worse than going to the dentist because no matter what papers or vehicles you bring, after waiting in line for hours, you always get to the front and they require something you don’t have. THEN you go get your papers or whatever, and return to wait in line another 2 hours just to hand the papers over. Not to mention the second they open up their computer there always like “hmmm….. you have several fees for blah blah blah”. Not looking forward to it. I am looking forward to going to Fry’s where I’m going to get a new external HD for album stuff. :)
This is possibly the nerdiest blog ever.
Going to have a screening party tomorrow night for the mini doc that 2012 made. I never knew he was so talented in video stuff. Makes me wish he would do more lol.
I still haven’t taken my amp in to get fixed which is kind of sad. It’s just dead in a box :( Poor Rivera.

The Redwood Forests Of Magic

August 25th, 2010 by cgerber

I have had this unexplainable growing urge to move into the Redwood forest recently. For real. As you well know I LOVE Los Angeles, more than words can express… but I keep finding myself thinking about the Redwood forests lol. It’s a little annoying really. I’ve even picked the location I want to look at. The problem is, I can never live in a little town because I don’t handle boredom well at all, and I HATE TV. So what do I do in small town when everything closes at night right around the time I’m waking up? A little bit of a problem I think. Anyway, I thought the whole thing was kind of strange and I felt like sharing.
This might be the longest I’ve gone without shaving. I don’t know how guys do it, I hate facial hair. I want to laser it away.
I don’t feel like talking about band stuff today. I think it’s stressing me out… all this pre-album build up, charity shows and Haiti stuff. What sucks is that I need to get a bunch of stuff done but I don’t feel like it lol. Post vacation issues I assume. I’m taking baby steps.
I’m going to go. I at least can get things rolling with a bowl of cereal.

Recording In Our Underwear

August 24th, 2010 by cgerber

I went into the studio yesterday to talk to our buddy Greg about the new album and run some things by him. If all works out, this album process is going to be awesome and totally crazy. We would basically have full run of the studio facilities to run around covered in sprinkles and whatever. Freedom. Sounds promising, but we still have a ways to go in that area.
Last night 2012 stopped by with a rough cut of the tour documentary he made. That’s right, 2012 made a documentary. We here in The Suicide Denial are very well rounded in media arts lol. Or at least I like to think anyway. The doc was awesome and incredibly epic. It’s pretty funny too. I still have my copy so I might even go over it again. Good stuff.
I’m still getting back into the swing of things. After running around a bit yesterday and chillin with 2012 while he finished up the cut, I still felt a little out of sync. I’m getting back though. For some retarded reason I’m awake right now which is annoying. I should be sleeping still!
I need to go through my list of what’s going down today. I need to talk with my friend Mayra who works with The Offspring’s lead singer Dexter. Going to run some TSD stuff by her. Also waiting to hear back on this massive secret show we’re in the pot for this month. We would be opening for a HUGE band if we get it. Fingers are crossed.

Home!

August 23rd, 2010 by cgerber

It feels good to be home. That stretch was a little over a month, a lot of fun, but I’m glad to be home. The place is full of equipment and luggage cause I got in at like 8AM after driving all night. I was too beat to clean everything up so the place looks like a Guitar Center. I jumped in bed and slept for a while then woke up to get started on the fall work basically. Found out 2012 has the tour doc almost finished… excited and scared about that lol. I’m about to head to a studio to check into some gear and details for the next album. There isn’t remotely enough time to do everything that needs to get done! I know it will, but it’s going to be crazy.
I need to go grocery shopping. There’s no food here.
I should make a checklist of everything that needs to get done this week. I haven’t even talked to 2012 since I got back…. then again Iv’e been back a half a day I guess. Oh yeah, Xia Ma (from the tour) is going to work on some remixes of “I’m Sorry LA” and “Phone Number” so I need to get him those. Why am I even typing this right now? I need to go.
Welcome home me!

Winding The Vacation Down

August 20th, 2010 by cgerber

This has been a long summer. Good, but long. The tour as you know went awesome and was a total blast, which then lead directly into my vacation while 2012 headed back to LA. I did some creepy backwoods camping in spider infested murder cabins in the mountains of Montana, ran from a grizzly bear in Wyoming (for real), rode motorcycles, 4 wheelers, ate WAY too much food,  and even squeezed in a dirty carnival. Now I’m in Arizona and yet again going camping. What’s odd about this is it must look like I looooove camping. I don’t. I do enjoy it, but it just so happens that this summer is a campy summer I guess. I’m really looking forward to getting home though. The new album is burning a hole in my brain, and we have to get ready for Haiti. There’s a billion things that need to get done, and I haven’t really gotten started on anything since I’ve been in the wildernesses of the United States lol.
2012 informs me a tour doc vid should be done sometime next week. I haven’t really seen much footage of anything from the tour so I’m excited to see it. I’m guessing we’ll probably not be heading back out on a TOUR tour till next summer, but it all depends on this new album. We have a lot of work and details to get figured out. The joys of the creative process! :) We work incredibly fast though, so getting the album together won’t take long.
I need some sleep before I’m back out of wifi range again.

Delete My Re-runs

August 11th, 2010 by cgerber

I know I wouldn’t if I could, for fear of repeating or making mistakes over, but I wish I could erase memories from my mind. Today was a day full of forgettable memories that made me wish I was on my boat drifting away at sea. I’m on vacation but find when I’m doing nothing, my mind drifts into old memories and things I don’t want it drifting into. If I slow down for a second my mind turns on the re-runs and makes me watch old episodes of my life. I hate it. Makes me want to end the vacation early and get swamped. Idol minds right? And what’s with the planets obsession with money anyway? I’m pretty sure we idolize money and what it can or can’t do as much as lady Ga ga or politics. I’m in a cage. I’m going to a movie tomorrow in which I’m going to leave my cage.
I’m dreaming in nightmares as always. Last night someone I loved had a deadly snake crawling in their clothes. I ran to get help but never found my way back to them. In my dream world I still don’t know if they are alive. I was swimming among snakes and whales in a man made aquarium. Just an uncomfortable dream all around.
The band is already getting tour withdrawals. Life is so slow and predictable off the road…. even when it’s not lol. Though things may be busy and stressful, the road provides that adventurous stress that gets the blood flowing. Musicians are always jumping between greener pastures….. if that makes any sense lol.
Well… I’m sitting outside listening to sprinklers and watching lightning in the distance. Other than the light of my laptop I’m in a weird bubble of darkness outside. Kind of creepy/weird/comforting.
Ok, I’m going back to my vacation now. Thought I would just throw up a drama note for you haha

I’m On Vacation

August 9th, 2010 by cgerber

After 20 some hours of driving I’m on vacation in a non disclosed location. A hidden vacation where I will do nothing and probably get fat. I’ve started it off by laying here in this bed and blogging. I haven’t even decided if I’m going to keep the blog up while on vacation because that would defeat the purpose of being on vacation.
The tour was great minus that last stupid show thing. We’re all very happy about the tour and already looking into the next one, along with the new album. But enough about that, I’m on vacation!
I drove for what seemed years while watching episodes of Seinfeld on DVD. Man that show is really funny.
I got a bloody nose while driving, and almost slammed into the back of some idiot who slammed on his breaks for no reason, then proceeded to wave me past him, then flip me off. It was a very interesting road experience.
Well that’s all you get. I need to pee, and my vacation is waiting. I may or may not update this while I’m on vacation, so we’ll just see what happens. Glad you all could make it out for the tour :)
Bye

Go Out With a Bang

August 7th, 2010 by cgerber

Well that was interesting. Final date of the Spread Denial Tour was shot down after weeks of our management trying to find out what on earth was going on. This venue in Tucson Arizona called Skrappy’s booked and confirmed a date on our tour 2 months ago, then as things got close our booker noticed they hadn’t done any promotion at all, and hadn’t even listed that we were playing on their site. They called, emailed, myspaced, and got nothing in return. Finally they sent someone in to check on what was going on and the venue was like “we’re having trouble getting bands to open on that date”. Mind you they’ve had 2 months to find a local band lol. Regardless, they still wouldn’t tell us if the show was on or off. We get down to the final week, we’re in Santa Fe still waiting to hear if the show is on (this whole process is incredibly ghetto) and we get nothing. So we make it into Tucson, and yesterday we head into the venue to unload and play. We walk in and they’re like “oh yeah no show tonight”. They said it was because the Tucson bus system has been on strike for a week (mind you this has been a 2 month thing) and that nobody could get to the show. They paid, we left, and kicked it in Tucson last night. We ended up playing pool somewhere and making way too many trips to Wal Mart for some reason. I’m leaving for vacation tonight, and 2012 heads home tomorrow. The tour was incredible and we can’t wait to get back out. Looks like we’ll be doing another batch of shows in LA and up and down the coast before we head to Haiti with the Faceless International team. Then once all that wraps up, it will be the holidays, and then time to get the new album going!
Sorry to whoever showed up at the venue last night if you did manage to figure out what was going on. We would have played for you, but they weren’t sticking around their own venue lol. You win some and you lose some.

Skrappy Tucson Show Saga

August 6th, 2010 by cgerber

Well sushi in the desert was a little gross last night. I mean, most of it was good, but the straight sushi with no sauces or anything was rubbery and old tasting, so I kept burping it up all night and didn’t enjoy that. I dried to cover it with other foods later in the night, but it still kept pushing through. I’m hoping it’s done.
After sushi me and 2012 went over business stuff and plans for the new album. We’ve got a very busy fall/spring ahead of us. Still waiting to hear back from other parties that might get involved, so it’s rolling.
After our meeting we took Xia Ma (keyboards) and went UFO hunting in the Arizona desert. That is so incredibly creepy. We were on these desert roads in the middle of nowhere. No people, no lights, just narrow highways and stuff. Of course we didn’t see anything, so we headed back. It was still fun though. :)
Tonight is going to be such a treat. This venue we’re playing at called Skrappy’s here in Tucson Arizona has had 2 months to get their stuff together for tonight’s show, however there’s been ZERO promotion, and in fact nobody from the venue will return our calls or emails and this thing has been confirmed on paper for 2 months. We’re going to show up no matter what, and we’re going to perform even if there’s no other bands or people…. since NOBODY KNOWS WHAT’S GOING ON! It’s frustrating to say the least. I’ll be happy if someone opens the door. Then we’ll worry about the other details lol.
Worst case, we show up, knock on the door, try to break it down etc… then go do something in Tucson… or something.

We Will Rock Friday… No Matter What!

August 5th, 2010 by cgerber

After a long drive and almost falling asleep, we made it into Arizona. We play in Tucson tomorrow night, despite semi shady dealings between our booking agent and the venue. Since we’re sort of stuck in the middle of whatever is going on (the venue hasn’t even posted our date, let alone done an ounce of promotion), we’re just going to show up and play. Last I heard the venue couldn’t find any opening acts…. which is a little confusing to me, but no worries! We’re going to show up at the venue ready to rock. Whether they’re ready or not lol. Gotta love the code of ethics sometimes.
Last night was pretty chill once we arrived. Ate some BBQ wings and apple sauce, then relaxed. It’s really hot here, so maybe we’ll go swimming later. I prefer night swimming away from the sun, but if everyone else wants to go I might. I don’t know.
You been following the whole BP oil spill stuff? I guess all the oil is cleaned up and they’re cutting back crews haha. Yep, the largest oil disaster in history is all cleaned up. At least that’s what the media is reporting. I don’t believe anyone anymore unless I know them.
I think we might go UFO hunting tonight. We won’t see anything, but it’s fun roaming through creepy deserts at night.
I need to get some emails sent off so I should go. Don’t forget to find us on Facebook/Twitter/Myspace/YouTube and all those other sites and add us. We’ll hold you.
